2004 chevy rear end bent
I have had this truck for 8 months and put 10k on it and now I'm on my third set of tires.
They only wear on the inner tread. Completely bald. I took it to BeeLine Auto here in Columbus Ohio and was told the housing has been bent. My question is which Chevy rear end years are compatible? Have not got much help from junkyards. I want to keep my disk brakes and wondering what works for a straight swap? Thanks JHT67 for telling me about this sight. It's sweet. Hope you and your dad enjoy the GMC. Posted via Mobile Device |

No go on the ratio.
Is it stamped somewhere on the housing what the ratio is? Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 2004 chevy rear end bent
Glove box RPO codes should give you the ratio. With 2WD you dont need to match a front axle, so that frees you up on ratio.

Re: 2004 chevy rear end bent
Going to a different ratio will throw the speedometer off. And the shift points on a auto.

Why does it mess up the shift points on the transmission? I am not saying you are wrong, just never heard of that. I assume it has something to do with the newer transmission but if you would explain that would be great. I always thought the transmission shifted based on RPM's.

Older transmission used a governor to do the same thing, And they need to be recalibrated to correct shift timing of the rear ratio is changed. |

Re: 2004 chevy rear end bent
I just swapped a 3.73 under my 02, inplace of a 3.42....as stated, the speedo is a tick off, & the shift points are a little different. Other than the speedo reading 4-5 mph fast, it hasnt seemed to be a problem? crazyL

Re: 2004 chevy rear end bent
I found a rearend here in Ohio. 70k on it with 6 month warranty for $500. Does this sound like a fair price?
