What makes spiral shocks so valuable?

I just picked up some parts from a 64 stepside that had a nice set of used spiral shocks that I was told were worth good money. I looked them up on Ebay and I am finding sets between $500-$800?!?! Why? Rarity? Quality? Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

Re: What makes spiral shocks so valuable?

The same thing that makes an OEM rubber floor mat worth over five bills, or a skinny piece of trim for under a back window, or an ashtray, or dash mount clock, or....
If you gotta have the right part with the right numbers and dates on it, and so do ten other guys, then the guy with the fattest wallet usually wins.
A lot of the big money stuff belongs on Corvettes as opposed to pickups. Those vette guys are pretty competitive and generally a well set group, so the bids can get downright silly. All in good fun though, right?

Re: What makes spiral shocks so valuable?

It is all about the rarity and desirability to a set group of interested people. The more rare and more desirable it is to other people, the price goes up accordingly.

Same as anything worth something... antiques, old hot wheels, first edition books, antiques, Walker Colts, old comic books, baseball cards, original Chevy truck tool packs...

I gave away the front ones from my 56 a few months ago. I still have the rear ones on it. They are still good.

The inner section has a spiral flute running all the way up the tube itself...I got two brand new ones in boxes in the shop.

So that answers my question about whether my shocks are original or not, lol. Time to get some new ones I think.

Yeah! I guess so. Are the 4wd ones different? I was thinking this shock upgrade was going to cost me not make money!
