help tailgate latch

i have a fleetside short bed and need some latch to carry stuff when i need to or items that are to long. could i make my own or i hate to say where could i get some new or old like other trucks

there price'y how making my own. i got the truck and does not have the OEM i have a regular door lock the one you slide from left to right.

do asearch on here there has been quite a few differant ways guys have done this. some use seatbelt latches some use the sliding locks. alot of people have put cables on tailgate to hold it up . alot of differant ways to do this

here is my latch set up. I used a cable and a bolt set up off of a Ford that I got from pick and pull for $8.00




I had these gate latches in my shed mounted them and drilled holes to "lock" them used a little weather strip to provide a snug fit

I drilled and taped the bolt and added a nut to secure it

I used a small carabiner ,when closed I just hook up here

and when it is opened I attach the carabier to the original eyelet were the chain hook went

and here it is Its been on for about 4 years, I weigh 200 lbs and they hold my weight with no problems lo buck $25.00 set up You can get the latches at Home depot,Ace,Lowes etc.
