Maybe found new motor for my 67

So I'm at my favorite scrap yard today and the guy knows I'm looking for a new motor for my 67 he tells me he just got in a 427 tall deck out of an old grain truck I didn't think much of it at first because it probably needs to go to the machine shop to be disassembled and checked out but now it's eating at me as the truck will only be used for heavy towing and such I know I can pick this thing up cheap prob as little as $100 should I go get it. I have searched and done a little reading seems like a killer motor for a 3/4 to that all ready has an sm465 trans and 4.10 Dana 60

If towing is a main concern by all means go get that sucker and put it in there. Just keep in mind that the TD 427 is not by any means a performance motor but the torque will pull the dirt off hecks half acre

for 100 bucks it would be worth it just for the steel crank. If i recall correctly, the tall decks have the same crank you would use for a regular 427, so you could use that to recoup your cost if it doesn't work out.

Tall decks are a pain. If you have a/c your brackets won't work, you are limited to that intake and that distributor, the heads are not flowing at all. Do a bit more research before you dive in. Now it is true that the crack will likely be steel and tuftrided and would be worth the $100.

Pull the crank and scrape the rest. Offer him $50 and you might get a free crank.
