am I nuts
I am thinking about converting the front of my 91 dually to 73-78... ? I really dig the realy trim and front end. Am I nuts or what? has anyone else done this conversion? I am guessing it is front dog house, rad core support, modify wiring harness and essentially ditch the cowl tin ?

Re: am I nuts
Pretty close. You will need to get the wiper stands and transmission as well, and swap those. I think there is a height difference in the body mounts, but if you use the original ones to your frame you should be OK.

Re: am I nuts
that pretty much sums it up but you will need the corresponding wiper linkage and make sure you keep your core support mounts as they will be needed as you use the same mounts for your frame when swapping over stuff

No you are not nuts, that is exactly what I did to my 88 crew cab. Finding a 70's crew 4x4 is extremely hard so I decided to build one. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=499666

Re: am I nuts
I love the early round head light front end the most of the body style.

Re: am I nuts
I think the more squared front looks better on a dually, same with the body line that turns down at the front signal. Same with steppers, I like the older front clip.
Good thing is that your front clip is considered to be very desirable to others looking to do a clip swap, you should come out money ahead... |

Re: am I nuts
I guess I'm the only one that disagrees.
I like the late model sheetmetal. The only way I would like the 73-80 front sheetmetal, would be to swap the interior also. (just my opinion) Otherwise it looks like a 81-87 with a different front clip.

Re: am I nuts
You are not nuts. I love the older front ends, but the newer also looks good on duallys. If thats what you really want then its alot cheaper to change sheet metal then change trucks. Finding an old dually without rust is getting hard to find. So making a newer one look older is the way I'd do it myself.

Re: am I nuts
I think the 73-78 just has more character...... but the 89-91 chevy suburban front clips have more clean styling.
it really is a toss up

Re: am I nuts
Yes you are nuts, but thats been known for a while. If its what you want, then do it. After spending a LOT of money on the bodywork of my old 82 Blazer project, I decided to convert it. Unfortunately I sold it before I got it finished, but you already know that.
