If you want 85 and 92 octane you need to come over to Wyoming. We have 85, 87, 91 and 92 octanes here. Right now 85 octane is around $3.52 and 92 octane for around $3.72. Not bad at all I might say.

I always use 87 here in South Idaho. It's the lowest grade available in the area. I recently pulled 12.5 mpg with my 350/Q-Jet/TH350 and I was pretty happy with that. There are a couple of non-ethanol stations around who've actually been advertising their "real gas" quite a bit. At some point I'm going to be running a tank of it through just to see the difference.

I miss the "real" gas. When we lived in Ohio there were a couple stations with it,,,,and that's all I ran 100% of the time.
Now out here in AZ there is nothing but junk gas (same as used in California) and it's all ethanol mixed (as I mentioned earlier it's not consistent either). My mileage in all the cars have dropped 1-2 mpg accross the board on average since the change. Not to mention I had to completely revamp the tunes on all the cars since the AFR changed and the drop in octane caused some slight detonation issues.

If I still had access to non ethanol gas, I'd still be running it no question.

we have 85 87 and 91 I run 85 nice 9:1 compression at altitude works fine except we cant get real gas anymore. well there was one gas station even pass it every day on my way to work that was the last hold out. my truck dont care about the mix but i think my bike would run better.

side note the one "close" station to me 230 miles I filled up at a few years back with the bike and got the best mileage ever and was able to run 115mph 2 up kinda interesting cant do that on this mix crap.

Check out Texas, I think it has the longest list out of all of them, makes sense since it seems to be the oil capital of the US

Then look at tree huggin' California,,,the whole state has only 5 listed

This sounds like the junk gas isn't meeting the advertised octane levels and the blenders are exceeding the advertised maximum ethanol percentages to raise the octane of their fuel because it's cheaper than the traditional Toluene and Xylene.

Ethanol should effectively raise the octane level because it raises the detonation resistance. However increasing ethanol beyond 10% creates nasty driveability issues. You can raise the Octane by adding a pure hydrocarbon like Xylene or Toluene but it won't fix the problems created by the excess ethanol.

47 states spot check advertised octane levels. OH, & PA are 2 of the 3 states that don't require octane testing by a state or county weights and measures agency. Is AZ the third state in the mix? California is a separate problem.
I have no information on what states, if any, test Ethanol percentage. I also don't know how many states require Cetane testing of diesel.

I know diesel is having the same fuel quality issues as gasoline. There is 35-40 cetane garbage being sold at pumps displaying 45 cetane minimum labels in Ohio. I bought fuel in Kentucky and Indiana when I lived in Cincinnati. No uncalled-for smoke from my diesels on Kentucky or Indiana fuel. My TDI smoked like a freight train on Ohio fuel.

Good info. Don't know if AZ is one of the other states, but I know we get our gas from the same suppliers of California, and I believe Nevada does too.
