Wow, that's pretty interesting. IDK much of the Duke's history, but I'm sure some one in Winterset Ia could verify or bust that truck and story. That's where the Duke's from.

Re: John Wayne's 72 K20 with camper for sale?
Are they saying it was his or he used it a time or two? I dunno, doesn't mean much to me either way, especially if he just used it. I doubt he owned it. It's too dang small!!. I wonder why they would go through all that trouble of converting a 2wd to 4wd when 4wds were available. An engine swap is much easier and for that matter,a 350 does all you'll ever need in one of these trucks anyway.

Re: John Wayne's 72 K20 with camper for sale?
I'm thinking this truck wasn't 4x4 converted but just a misunderstanding about badging at the time. Seen several "C/10"s here in California with "the rare 4x4 option". A lot of people don't know that the "K" fender badging useage didn't begin until '73 MY. Then they think that their truck is special or rare because it is a "C" 4x4 truck.

Re: John Wayne's 72 K20 with camper for sale?
It could go either way. But if you get down to it a BB engine swap is a lot easier than a 4x4 axle. Better from a frame standpoint as well. But I have seen trucks done both ways.
Went to look at a CL "69 K20 4x4 396". Knowing something was wrong I had to look and see what was up. Turned out, as expected, to be a C/20 and a hack job. Guy bought it off eBay and now needed to sell it to move. Claimed he though it was factory. Wish I had better pictures but they had welded strap between the engine frame stands and built a channel t-case crossmember.
