Re: Cutting marker lights in 67the swb

I did this on my 70 GMC that had a 67 step side bed on it- (I've since purchased a replacement bed)-
I first cut a pattern from a marker light- cut it out and then sprayed the outline on to the fender- drilled some holes and used a metal blade in my jig saw--

Only thing that I didn't/couldn't do properly was recess the edges so the marker would sit down in the cut out- It looked OK (the gasket helped the marker conform to the opening)-

I would have be happy keeping the old bed but it had other "problems"--hope this helped--

It's easy to do,but very difficult to do right. I would never do it to a '67 fender or bed. I would just get fenders and a bed with marker light holes if that's what I wanted.
Years ago I cut a side marker light into the rear door of a utility body...see? (I had a Stepside tailgate on there, too)

My first question is why would you? Secondly, are we talking front fenders or rear? Lastly, if it is because one end has the markers and the other doesn't- it would be much easier to fill the offending holes than trying to cut in new ones.

If you need em to pass vehicle inspection or something, put stick on reflectors on for the day.

But don't cut up good stuff, ya know?

Re: Cutting marker lights in 67the swb

OK maybe I should have setup my question better. I currently have a 68 short bed c10 that has a 90s short step. I bought a 67 short wide bed thinking I could have the marker lights cut out. I thought about filling in the front fender marker lights but want to keep it looking like a 68 and don't really want to cut on a 67 bed.

Re: Cutting marker lights in 67the swb

WHY,WHY,WHY???..... Seriously there is no reason to cut markers in those fenders. Even the '68 trucks only had reflectors. Saw your bed with the tub cutouts. How about putting a new floor in that and keeping you '67 markerless. A wood floor kit would go a long way to making it useful. If you found a later bed to use then just fill in the light holes on the bed. That is an easy fix.

Re: Cutting marker lights in 67the swb

I don't want to fill in the front fender marker lights either so my truck will look as a 68 should. That's why I decided to sale the 67 bed instead of cutting on it. I was asking just in case it was something simple to do for a good body man. What I rather do is sale the 67 bed and buy a 68-72 bed or maybe trade for one.

Cool Re: Cutting marker lights in 67the swb

If me that's what I would do. Either buy a new 68 bed are not do it at all. The bed with markers already there would be worth the time and money spent on cutting them.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: Cutting marker lights in 67the swb

i dont know if you have to be a 67 owner in order to realize the horror when you hear this... but all i can say in out of 10 bedsides 1 will be a 67... out of 20 front fenders one will be a 67.... so please dont cut one... there to hard and rare to find these days, the 67 owners only have 1 year to find our fenders where as 69 72 owners have 4 years, and 68 owners have 5 years to get fenders for... i am not going to tell you what to do with your parts. but i think i and most other 67 owners would appreciate it if you give it a second thought... just saying. good luck with your decision.

Maybe you could have them airbrushed on. Just a thought might look Good.

Re: Cutting marker lights in 67the swb

Ok guys. I did not want to cut the marker lights from the beginning but after some thought and your comments I have decided to sell the bed and go with a 68-72 short wide bed or maybe even a stepper. Anybody got anything good?

Thanks,
Brian
