Re-drilling rotors

Has anyone ever tried to re-drill 5-lug disk rotors for 6-lug? I want to convert to disks on my 66 but i would like to keep my 6-lug rally wheels, plus i don't really want to change the rear. I have a complete front and rear from a 72 to do a swap with. I tried one of the rotors with the wheel studs removed up to a 6-lug wheel and it looks like if the holes were welded and re-drilled it would work. Just wondering if anyone else has tried this and if so did it work out for you?

Re: Re-drilling rotors

If it were me, I would just buy some six lug rotors.

I put disc brakes on my 68 and kept it six lug.

Good luck!

You can buy the conversion rotors from the truck and car shop. That will let you keep them 6 lug. I did the same thing when I put an '83 subframe in my brothers '62. They're part #60-152011 and they run $75.00 each.

.
FYI - I tried laying these two patterns out in AutoCAD some years ago. Regardless of position, one of the (6) holes will partially overlap (breakout) in one of the (5) holes. I suppose it could be welded up and re-drilled, but I'm with the guys above. Unless you are a "full-on" welder and machinist, I'll bet you can buy the new rotors for less $$$.

Re: Re-drilling rotors

Thanks for the replies. I didn't realize new ones could be bought for $75 each. That's probably what i'm going to do as i already have everything else to do the brake swap. I like keeping the cost down on this stuff but if $150 will make life easier i'm all for it.
