Finally drove it, feels AWESOME!

Hey all, just a reminder for those that are stuck, there is light at the end of the tunnel!
In the past 2 years, I've gone from someone who could only change oil and plugs to now setting timing, changing entire brake systems, rebuilding carbs and installing gauges! Just wanted to thank everyone here for their help! If I get stuck I usually check google, get frustrated, then come here for answers/help.

I was finally able to drive "to town" after tons of minor things from lights, brakes, trans issues, engine troubles, etc. I probably would have ditched it earlier, but being my great grandfather's truck, I wanted to invest in it.

Of course, it will never be "done", but man it felt so great to drive down the highway at 55 with the windows down and hearing that I6 purr. I'm still paranoid as hell something's going to fall off and go bouncing down the highway or the steering column will break (won't but just nervous), but the joy far outweighs the fear.

Just saying thanks for everyone's input and don't give up!

Pic was first trip to town for some dog food, maybe should have been the liquor store for celebration!

Congrats, I feel like I go back in time every time I drive my 64! I try to keep my truck on the road and not do anything that takes it off over 3 days at a time.

Cool, even us old timers that have had our trucks apart a thousand times still have that feeling of anxiety on occasion.

Re: Finally drove it, feels AWESOME!

Congrats. tj62! I just recently got my '64 on the road as well, and I love it. I'm still a little wary about taking her too far from home, so I've just been running her to the grocery store and around the neighborhood. But with each time out, I'm getting a little more confidence in the old girl. I may even take her to the Good Guys show in a couple of weeks. It's about an hour away.

Re: Finally drove it, feels AWESOME!

awesome! congrats! If I ever get another one of these trucks it will be an I6, love those engines. I had a 57 stepper when I was in high school (a few dozen years ago!), with an I6, and 3 on the tree, absolutely loved it. Had no where to keep it, had to let it go at the time.

I have replaced my intake, and re-cored my rad. Constantly watching the temp, and looking under the hood for problems! Part of the excitement don't ya think?

Re: Finally drove it, feels AWESOME!

Very cool milestone you've reached, and a nice looking truck. Always like to hear about a truck with family history being kept in the family. Be sure to take lots of pictures so you can share more of your adventures.

Re: Finally drove it, feels AWESOME!

congrats! It's an awesome feeling each time you get one on the road but I especially remember the first drive in my first restoration...an 80Z28...it's just more special the first time you drive one you've done the work on!

Congrats on getting your truck on the road again. Each time you complete a project on your truck, and sucessfully drive it down the road again, you will gain more confidence.
