another gear ratio question

i was in the process of figuring out my rear gear ratio on 72 pickup
jacked up the rear, trans in neutral. when i spin the tire nothing else moves. i then grabbed the tire to stop the spin or slow it and the driveshaft started to move but just a little.....same on both sides.

whats up with that?

Re: another gear ratio question

chock the wheel/tire on one side of your axle and then spin the other.
