4l60e black box on shifter arm

been reading on the posts about gettin the lokar shifter brackets for my 85 c10 but noticed in the pictures that the black box looking part that is over the shifter stud on side of transmission is off in the pictures. my question is do i need this box or can i do away with it. and what is it for exactly im installing a 2001 5.3 from tahoe with the trans that came with it. thanks for your help guys.

Its the neutral safty switch/gear indicator switch, The PCM uses it to perform some diagnostic self tests, & the cam-crank relearn procedure.

It will work without it, but I prefer to use them if possible.

I threw mine in the trash. Just don't shut the motor off in gear, or it will run funny for 1 time afterwords. Learned by experience.
