Exhaust turndowns behind cab

I just did a cam swap in my 350 and am thinking about doing something different with the exhaust. It currently has two flowmaster 40s that run all the way out the back. I was thinking about dumping it with turndowns right behind the cab. Has anyone done this? Any input is appreciated

Re: Exhaust turndowns behind cab

yep, done it several times and this is what ive found..
1:the drone gets annoying, esp on the first date.
2: angle the tips outward to avoid dirt being thrown up everywhere, still tho, its gonna kick up dust all over ur truck.
3: if u have a sliding rear window, forget about using it, the exhause gasses get sucked up between the cab and bed and right into that back window...

would i do it again knowing all this??? yes,
1:i have a gf for almost 5 years now, so if she shuts up its better for me
2: frame and underbody is all bed linned so dirt somes right off, body is currently primer so oh well.
3: no sliding rear windo.

my advise: go dual 3" dumps, mind as well, 2.xx" are just a waste if u as me, do it once do it right.....

may wanna use these???
but beware theyre loud! but for performance, AWESOME (flowmaster purple hornies 3" flange to 3" dump standard leant NON JEEP

Re: Exhaust turndowns behind cab

2.5" tailpipes and resonators in front really took away the drone from my flowmasters..
Especially after I fixed the lockup converter...no cab insulation yet..coming soon.

Re: Exhaust turndowns behind cab

The previous owner of my 74 truck put turn downs right behind the cab and its pretty loud on mine. I plan on running the pipe out the back, gets annoying afterwhile. Mabye right behind the tires I think.

Re: Exhaust turndowns behind cab

This is how I did mine - ran a short length from the headers to Warlock Racing Mufflers, took the blocking flange off the muffler and bolted on QTEK electric cut-outs, then Summit turn downs. Since summit turn downs are bolt-on, they are adjustable as far as what angle you want them blowing out. All this happens about a foot or two before the rear axle, which is still pretty close to the cab. This way all the tone is at the flick of a switch, depending on my mood. And since it isn't directly behind the cab I can still get fresh air from the sliding rear window. The thick metal construction of the mufflers also reduces vibration in the cab.

Re: Exhaust turndowns behind cab

not behind the cab but close
305 2B ,manifolds to flowmaster 40s with a crossover @ 2.25
cleared out the stock manifolds too
sounds good to me,with no radio speakers thats all I hear
i went with 2.25 so i get sound without it always haveing to hit it to the floor

but not as loud as the 350 /cherry bombs on the 4X4 tho
