Big dirty caught fire :(

so tonight went to run to the shop for a part for my tow truck and I jumped in my dually to go and it acted like the batt was dead. so i jumped out and ran to the tow truck to get my booster pack. come back pop the hood brother hooks up the booster pack and as i go to crank it over smoke come bellowing out from under the hood. so i ran to grab my tools to disconnect the battery.

both the pos and neg wires were burning hot.but i managed to get them disconnected. and its took dark tonight to asses the damage but im not looking forward to it tomorrow what a crappy day!

Re: Big dirty caught fire :(

Hopefully it's not too bad. sounds like the starter grounded out melting the pos cable. That can make a lot of smoke and smell pretty bad. Let's hope a starter, a cable or two, and a new battery fixes your problems. Fingers crossed.

Re: Big dirty caught fire :(

Look at the bright side. You may still have full battery warranty left maybe not even pro rated yet.

Re: Big dirty caught fire :(

These trucks are getting notorious for fires. Mine scared me 3 times all from old wires and insulation cracks.
