Use Air Pressure gauge as a Vacuum gauge?

I was talking to an old truck guy who said he has used his air pressure gauge as a vacuum gauge just by connecting the air hose to the vacuum out. Has anyone else ever done this, if so how does it work and how do you read it?

Cheers,

Pressure and vacuum are complete opposites, I don't see how it could work.

Well, so can a cassette tape or an 8-track, as long as you don't put too much pressure on it. But, that's another story.

Was the old truck guy toothless and pushing a shopping cart down the street? Get a vacuum gauge to read vacuum. I don't know how a pressure gauge would possibly work unless yours can read negative pressures.

Re: Use Air Pressure gauge as a Vacuum gauge?

ask him if he is saying you could use air pressure to create a vacuum . like siphoning water out of a bottle. and not really be using the gauge to show a vacuum. may be a misunderstanding of terms...

Is it a factory air guage you have? Do you need a factory vac guage? Wanna trade?

Right now I don't have either, but I think he's got an air gauge/tach setup he's trying to sell me.
