Factory Service Manual, '72 GMC 2500

Good afternoon--

I've been researching repair manuals for my '72 and am bit confused as which one to buy. Seems there are different flavors, supplemental manuals, etc. I want something with engine, brakes, transmission, everything...if there is such a thing. I'm getting ready to replace my front rotors and wanted to take a look at a manual first just to see the setup.

If somebody could point me in the right direction as far as which FSM to buy and where, I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Mark

Re: Factory Service Manual, '72 GMC 2500

The factory service manual should be where you start, and likley all you will need for brake work. If you want to get deeper into things beyond changing parts the overhaul manual will be needed as well. An assembly manual is helpful to go to in a "big picture" way and for specifcs. Parts and Illustration manuals have a lot of information but are pricy and the parts manual can be cryptic to those new to GM parts structuring.

I agree-the factory GM manual is all you need.

Is this the manual you are referring to?

http://www.gregsonline.com/eshop/Shop_Manuals/72TSM.htm

It's a reprint but that is fine by me if it has what I need.

Thanks.

Yes and No. Yes it is a GM Service manual and no in that Greg's description is too generic. This manual will not have overhaul data. In fact it may refer you to the Overhaul manual for some specifics. Another thing is Chevrolet and GMC are nearly the same and if you don't have a factory V6 you are pretty much good to go. If you can a GMC manual would be my first choice. Here are two links for reference and information purposes. Faxon is known to me and I have used them on numerous occasions. Wandering the stacks there has cost me a lot of time and money!

Would anybody happen to know if the FSM is available on CD? I have the full FSM for my Toyota Land Cruiser on CD and I absolutely love it. I put it up on the web and I can refer to it anywhere, anytime via my laptop or phone.
