Found Something interesting today!

but first, why in the heck don't they include two of those .23 cent clips with a set of brake pads? Or at least remind you to get a couple. I was at a friends shop alone today, no cell phone no driveable vehicle nothing to drink, and the 20 year old clip snaps while taking it off the oldpad. When your as limited as I am mechaniclly it's a b*t*h to do it with out that clip.

Ok, the Hopefully interesting part. While doing the brakes, I found two little stickers that I assume are from the assebmly line. I bought the blazer (1980 btw) from the original owners and it has low milage at 54000 miles. From its condition and the fact that it sat for the last 10 or so years, I think the miles are correct. Plus the fact that the owners had no reason to lie, they would not even sell it to me for two years.

I think I may have finally found a keeper and would like to restore it someday, but I tend to go a little overboard on the originality issue. Like stickers and chalkmarkings on the frame and such. Does anybody have any information on these stickers or know if they are from the factory or not (my worst nightmare would be to find out that it has been wrecked, has a new frontend and been repainted and all-----there goes the keeper)

The first sticker was on the rotor, it's about 1/2 there, white with these RED letters W maybe a M and a 9. The other one looks like a piece of Masking tape wraped around the sus. spring with the # 328099. I guess thats a part # but not sure. Does anyone know of a way to look it up or maybe have order a replacement spring recently.

The last thing,I promise. What is the average mileage that a set of brakes last. These old pads are so thin, almost non existant. The rivits are smoothed out like they are part of the pad. Must have been brass or something soft because the rotors are fine.
54k seems like too many miles for an original set, but too few to completly wareout 2 sets. I was just wonderong if these could be the original brakes.

Sorry for the length and thanks for any info........Jason
Oh and if your wondering why I didn't here the warning whistle, the Squeak from the acculated dust from sitting so long was over bearing.
