Hey all, I have a question in regards to the rear suspension, I noticed on my truck I have 4 coils in the rear, 2 of the normal ones for the trailing arms and rear axle, but then there is two more for above the trailing arms to the bed? anybody ever seen that? been out to the yards and spoke with others and they do not have these top coils. So I am stumped on these coils, trying to replace them since the PO decided to cut them to lower the truck. Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Re: 63 Questions rear suspension
Is that somebody's idea of a overload spring?

Re: 63 Questions rear suspension
Looks like the one on the left was cut and left there.

Re: 63 Questions rear suspension
yeah Thats what I am trying figure out myself. It was like that when I bought from the PO. but it has the brackets for the springs, but it just may be for the Rubber bumpers. I seen it on another truck over a year ago had the same questions about it. I just dont want it to interfere with the new coils and all.

Re: 63 Questions rear suspension
IIRC my 63 had a set up like that, they were overload springs of some sort. It's been several years since they have been on the truck (removed them to convert to leaf spring as part of the 4x4 conversion) and my memory of them is very vague. It's probably best to remove them anyways because those don't look very safe.

Re: 63 Questions rear suspension
They look like they would be an overload spring. I am sure you can remove it and be just fine with the main spring on the trailing arm. That is odd though, I have never seen that before.

Re: 63 Questions rear suspension
The factory assist springs were leaf springs that mounted to the frame. Looks like they were cut and left in, Id remove them
