I don't think the boy is lying. I bet it wouldn't shift either when a rod is laying in the pan and the head is cracked. These trucks have paid their dues, and yet the parts are still plentiful, conversions/modifications are relatively easy, the knowledge on this board is excellent and I am not trying to make lemonade out of lemons - I see a excellent opportunity for a father/son project! Personally I would take the boy out for a burger or something and feel him out for what he wants to do about it? A little support at a time of doubt will be remembered forever IMO.

You can pick up a used 350 for dirt cheap. Wouldn't even worry about it just throw another in there

When I got out to where it happened, it was dripping water out of a hole in the oil pan. When we got it home, he drained what water was left, then he said some oil came out too.

It'll definately be another father/son project. When he first got it, we pulled the motor, replaced all the gaskets, plugs, etc. He cleaned it up, painted and we put it back in. Glad I kept the engine stand

We've been able to find 305/350s around here for $200 - $500. Told him once he gets a steady paycheck, we'll see about getting it back on the road.

To do it properly, there will be nothing left to drain from the block or pan
