VIN Numbers
Does any know where I can check a VIN number online for a vehicles older than 1980? I'm looking at a blazer and have the VIN number, but carfax doesn't go back that far. Here's the VIN if any one can check it.
VIN KE180S133273 1970 K5 Blazer, looks to be a CST. Thanks.

K= 4WD
E= 8cyl 1= 1/2 Ton 8=??? (Recheck - should be a 6 indicating a Blazer) 0= 1970 S= St. Louis Assy Plant Number 33,273 unit built. As far as the CST goes, you should be able to tell by the trim, bumpers, nameplates on the doors, etc. (Assuming it's original). Also, on the glovebox, the code for CST is 1Z8410 "Cheyenne Equipment" Hope this helps. Paul

My Blazer's VIN is:
K = 4 Wheel Drive E = 8 cylinders 1 = 1/2 ton chassis 8 = Blazer 104" WB (8 is correct for the Blazers) 0 = Last digit of the year 1970 S = St Louis assembly plant 1541XX = The 54,1xx vehicle built in that plant in that model year. My glovebox door states Custom Sport truck option, not Cheyenne. That didn't start until 1971. |

I've heard on some years, the "K" doesn't necessarily indicate 4wd as on the trucks. I will ask a couple of guys I know with original 2wd's if this is true. Anyone able to enlighten us on this?

My '72 2wd blazer has badges that say K-5 Blazer, I don't know why, I don't think it mattered if they were 2wd or 4wd, I'm guessing that it was just to set blazer's apart from pickups, but that's just a guess.

A "K" in the vin is 4wd, but all of the '69-'72 have K5 emblems on the front fenders.
