The coil is "intergrated" in the dist. Lookin the center of the dist, you have what is known as an HEI ignition and the coil is built in. now to wire your tach the are spade terminals on the side of the cap. One will be marked BATT+and it will have a large wire going to it[or should]. Next to it will be a empty term maked - or coil- or TACH that is where the tach output should be plugged in. Then you will have a 12volt + that shold go to the fuse box to a sorce that is hot with the key on and a black wire as a ground. Also maybe a green wire that will hook to the headlamp switch so that the lamp in the tackh can be chaned with the dash lights

Re: install 1963 rpm guage !

I cant tell from the photo but if you have a points distributor, the center wire on the distributor cap will connect to the coil, so follow it. If you have an HEI distributor, then the coil is under the cover on top of the distributor cap, and there is no center plug wire. I think you may have an HEI.

On the HEI there will be a wire connecting to the distributor cap, that is the power wire. Next to it should be an empty spot to connect another wire. That is where the wire from the rpm guage will connect to.

If you have a points distributor with a coil the rpm guage will connect to ground terminal on the coil i think. But its been a long time since i've had a points distributor and cant remember for sure.

EDIT: hugger6933 beat me to it
