T5 borg Conversion on a 1964 C10

Its finally time to drop the muncie for the T5. I have been reading up on the conversion, and have yet to find much information on my year and engine. I drive a 1964 chevy C10 with a 230. My main concern is locating the correct t5 transmission to make the conversion as simple as possible. From my research I have found that a 2wd S10 maybe the most ideal for shifter position. I have also found that a .500 inch adapter plate may be necessary to make up for the difference in spline length. It goes on and on with gear ratios and clutch plates. Though these were all for different years and bell housing. I have come here to ask for your help and get it straight. What would be the steps for converting my c10 into a daily driver. As well I am in the market for locating a t5 to get this done.

Re: T5 borg Conversion on a 1964 C10

this thread seems as comprehensive as it can get, still undecided if I want to go this route, or keep my 3 speed, and change the gears in my rear end for highway drivability
good luck

you are welcome, and thanks for posting... I had not seen the tech article that boucher racing posted, so I am glad to come across another resource for this upgrade.

Re: T5 borg Conversion on a 1964 C10

I am planning on doing the same on my 70 swb and I have a v-8 Camaro T-5 and aS-10 T-5. I planon putting the tailshaft housing and top cover from the s10 to the Camaro as described in some other post. I think with a 6 cylinder motor a S-10 would be fine as long as you drive it "right".

from everything I have read the S10 transmission is plenty strong for a stock HP small block as well, as long as you don't plan on racing, or driving like a teenager!

Re: T5 borg Conversion on a 1964 C10

That is ture about the hp ability of the S-10 T5. I will be using the Camaro main stuff one main reason is the clutch stuff that came with it will work easier with the truck stuff[from what I understand] and the second reason I hav'nt decided weather I willl use the stock 327 that is in thereor the vortec headed small-block I have in the corner[about 400HP]. The third reason ir I have less than 100 bucks in both of them. I won't drive it like a teenager or raceit because both of those days are long gone for me. This truck will likely end up for sale at some point after completion and The stronger trans will help the selling point.

Another plus with the Camaro is you do not need an adapter
