Starting

When starting my truck I have to pump the gas about 3 times before it will turn over, if I let it run without pressing on the gas and driving the rpm's up to about 15k it just dies. If I do this about 3 times it will just start normal but at a low idile but once it warms up the idile will climb to about 10k. Am I looking at a fuel pump issue or a carb issue, or a combination of both. I know the timing and spark control are bang on.

Re: Starting

Sounds like a carb/choke issue. Will it start if you pump the gas only once to set the choke?

Re: Starting

Manual choke, but same thing with choke on or off, it sounds like it's starving for fuel but once it warm it starts no problem. I don't want to adjust the idle higher because once the motor is hot it will just start racing.

Re: Starting

How often do you drive the truck? my 78 have to pump 8 times while starting if the truck sits for more than 3 days,I know my automatic choke is shot ,about 80 bucks for new one, also think carb dries out or drains somewhere? old cars and trucks do this unless everything is new, once warmed up tho runs great, fuel injection much better system for starting
