Scored a 235 yesterday
I found it on craigslist, and the price seemed right...
It's got a muncie 318 attached also. ..supposedly whoever this guy got it from had it in a 57 chevy truck...the motors numbers ID it as a 58 Ive got a 51... it was my uncles, and he always wanted to keep it original...so I want to keep this truck BASICALLY "stock",,,at least in appearance...meaning I wanna keep the 3-speed on the column one concern i have is the cost/upkeep of coverting the old torque tube rear end to more hiway-friendly gearing... would this muncie 3 speed bolt up? it's for a regular drive shaft, so Id have to get a rear end, but what would the advantages of this? Just wondering...

Re: Scored a 235 yesterday
I have a 235 in my 55 2nd with the converted 4 the floor and stock rearend. My speedo doesn't work, but I was followed by a friend while i was pulling a 16' flat bed trailer at 65-70. It was on fairly flat with small hills.

Re: Scored a 235 yesterday
I think ur 3rd gear is the same 1:1 ratio my 4th gear is. My truck was converted to pull hay trailers in the 60's. I have a three on the tree and all the parts to go back to it minus a driveshaft. Which I can have mine shortened to work!!
