Question Spray Paint????

I am wondering whether I could paint the glove compartment door, ash tray lid, and other interior areas with spray paint.
Is this OK?

I need to change some colors in order to match my new upolstery.

Maybe some clear coat to finish the job?.

Anyhow, I sure would like some advise. If it can be done, it will sure save me lots of $$$'s.

thanks

al

Yes you can but you might need to lay the pieces flat and paint to let the paint "self-level".
I don't know how much you know about paint prep but that is the most important thing to get the paint to last.

Yes, you can use spray paint to paint just about anything. You have to spend some time if you want it to look good. You will need to buy a premium quality paint.

If you want to clear over it, make sure you get the same "brand & type" of paint to ensure they are compatible. If not, they will re-act (wrinkle), and ruin your work. Just to be sure, try a little test panel. Paint it, and let it dry, then clear it.

The key to a good paint job is prep work. Clean the area with soapy water, and add a bit of amonia. Clean it once, then clean it again. Wet sand the part to be painted, then clean it again.

Once you have everything wet sanded smooth, decide if you need primer or not. If there are no scratches to fill, you probably can get by without primer. If you have scratches to fill, prime the parts, let dry, and wet sand again. Repeat until everything is smooth.

Use a tack rag to remove all the lint, and fuzz off of your part, then spray them with very light even coats. Let them tack dry between coats. Once you get a couple of coats on, you can start laying down a bit heavier color coats. GO SLOW! It's much better to add more coats, than gets runs, and start over.

This should get you going enough to ask more questions. Take your time, and you will get excellent results...

With your paint code, you can take that to your local automotive paint shop and they can mix the paint for you and also pump that into normal spray cans. Obviously it doesn't look as good as having it done correctly with the proper tools and a paint booth but if your careful it will look pretty decent.

thanks again. I only need to do the glove box and the ash tray lid, the rest is plastic and I have already taken care of that.

thanks for the info. I will post pics once I get it done, assuming it comes out OK. LOL.

Thanks
