front end binding?

My 1966 LWB truck was already bagged all the way around. I tore apart the front end to rebuild it. New tubular lower control arms, stock upper arms, and all new ball joints. I'm in the middle of putting it all back together, and the front arms will not go as low as they did before. My first guess is the new upper ball joint is binding. Just asking if this is common. It should lay lower with the new lower arms. I have not installed the bags yet, just testing the travel. I tossed the old ball joints so i can not compare them.

Re: front end binding?

Upper ball joint bind is normally the limiting factor. What tubular lowers did you use?
I would consider purchasing the tubular uppers to correct this.

I have seen the S10 guys "pie cut" their stock uppers to help correct the balljoint angle.
Look over at www.S10forum.com, in the suspension section for pics of this process.

Re: front end binding?

Was this problem ever resolved? I'm encountering basically the same exact issue. I'm bagged all around, have tubular lowers and I just put in all new bushings and ball joints. And it won't go as low as before

Re: front end binding?

All else being the same, new bushings are much tighter so wont travel as far in the beginning, otherwise are the uppers making contact before completely lowered?
