Old fuel smell?
I'm redoing a fuel system on 69 c10. I welded 2 -8 fittings to a tank and ready to reinstall. Gas tank keeps on omitting nasty gas smell, kinda similar to an old paint smell. I ran plenty of water through it. Tank is clean inside. Should I boil it out or just run it as is?

Re: Old fuel smell?
If it were mine I would make sure there isn't any rust in it and if not I would bolt it in and go. As long as its clean it shouldn't make a differance. It has just had gas in it for many years and its hard to remove that smell.

Re: Old fuel smell?
you might as well get some muratic acid at home depot and use a 1 to 3 mixture (water) to swish around in the tank for a bit. its out anyways and itll eliminate any worry about old smelly gas and old varnish

Re: Old fuel smell?
Dump 1 quart of acetone in the tank and slosh it around it will remove the water that is left over and the smell will be gone
