Short or long water pump on a fresh rebuild?

I bought a 75 Corvette 350 engine real cheap that I'm rebuilding. I have the starter, alternator, carb and p.s. pump but I'm not sure if I will use it in my 68, 69 or just sell it when I get done with it.

I'm basically starting on a long block and am wondering which would be a better choice -short or long water pump?

Well, I guess there's no opinions on this but I think I'm going with the long pump. I'm not crazy about the stock bracket on top of the alternator but I also don't like the alternator on the drivers side -which is what the short pump requires.

As it stands, I'll probably go with aftermarket billet type brackets.

Long pump pulleys and brackets are cheaper and easier to find if originality is not a concern.

Yeah, that's another reason I decided on the long water pump. Since the engine came out of a Corvette I had thought about keeping it original but it's not something that I have a burning desire to do. Thanks for input.

Re: Short or long water pump on a fresh rebuild?

I too am refurbishing the original engine out of my '75 Vette and will be putting it in my '68 Chevy pickup (in place of the original 307). I am installing a '68 327 intake manifold on it to make it look correct for the truck but I really don't want the alternator on the drivers side. So, I'll probably go with the long water pump as well, to facilitate mounting the alternator on the passenger side. Good luck with your build.
