drop my '68
I keep looking at my truck and keep thinking it needs to be about 3" lower. The truck has it's original stock springs so they're probably a little sagged already. I have about 6" clearance front and back wheel well to top of tire. There is about the same clearance from axle to frame at the rear. How far down can I go before needing a c-notch? What drop do I need to keep it level? I was looking at coils front and rear and maybe blocks on the rear as well to keep it level. Besides coils, shocks and adjustable panhard bar is there any other surprises I should be aware of?

not 100% sure, but I think off a late 80's caprice. They were on the truck when I bought it.

Re: drop my '68
you can get 2/4 3/4 or 3/5 on just springs/shocks. can go more on the front but you would need drop spindles.

Re: drop my '68
I would suggest a 4.5/5" drop with c-notch, but if you you want to stay clear of doing a c-notch, then a 2.5/3 is what I would recommend. It won't get the truck sitting right on the tires, but would give it a better stance and help close the gaps.

Re: drop my '68
So I settled on a 3/4 drop. 3" drop spindles and 4" coil on the rear.
it still sits nice and level, looks fantastic and handles even better as long as I don't need to go around corners. Apparently there are some clearance issues with a 3" drop spindle and a 15" rim. not sure what I'm going to do now. Maybe a tubular lower control arm will give a little more clearance, possible switching the 3" spindle to a 2" with a 1" coil. Maybe I can do a little adjustment to the existing lower control arm. I haven't had a real good look yet. There is a little voice in the back of my head that keeps saying, if you switch to a larger wheel, problem solved and you can get some larger brakes too. But I really like my wheels. Last edited by GMC Canuck; 06-11-2012 at 02:22 PM. |
