Manual Trans Installation?

Thinking of swapping out my 4L80E for a manual trans behind my LQ9.

What have you guys installed that DIDN"T involve cutting the trans tunnel in the 2WD truck?

Truck is all done so I don't feel like having to strip the interior and cut the tunnel out and everything that goes along with that.

Also, what have you used for a hydraulic clutch set up? (mount, etc)

Thanks

Re: Manual Trans Installation?

ok time for my long story... maybe.
I have a 5.3 and had the 4l60 behind it for a few years. After a couple power adders it decided to start slipping. I had a T56 in the waitings so that was the plan to swap in. I am getting my final hose made today so hopefully it will be moving again under its own power soon. That will be the best idea for a swap.
For a little history I did the 5.3 gen 3 swap about 7 years ago before most were doing it or there were too many mounts so I made my own, they are low and back far. I was able to set my engine tranny angle at around 3.5 to 4 degrees down in the back and am using my low hump cover so it is possible atleast on mine but it is very very close. I am using my stock 400 turbo mount with just about 3/4 inch cut out of it.
I hope to know soon if my hydraulic clutch works I mounted a S10 master cylinder on my firewall and ran into the top of my clutch pedal, it seems like it has the right throw but again I will soon know. the hose became the thorn in this process. I am using the factory 2002 camaro slave cylinder and the hose in mysetup is too short, I am using the stock "plug" or fitting on the slave, this probably would be best changed to find the right hose. I will post more later.

Re: Manual Trans Installation?

Thanks for the info, keep me posted.

I noticed in the LMC catalog that in 86 the C-10 had a hydraulic clutch system, would something like that work better?

If you are looking for a complete package you could contact Keisler engineering or one of those companies. I looked into a while back and they have kits that will work with our trucks.

Re: Manual Trans Installation?

ok an update. I got the T56 installed. I did use the low hump but it was or is extremly tight. Originally I cut the floor out for the high hump but ended up getting the stock one to work. I built my own motor mounts and modified the tranmission cross member. I stuck my motor as low as possible so that may have helped. I doubt it will work with some of the purchased mounts but am not sure.
The T56 is sure fun, and seems to work really good with my 3.73 gears. I cruise at 1500 rpm at 70 mph. a lower set of gears might be a better option as first still seems a little high. All in all it is a great swap.

Re: Manual Trans Installation?

Tim,

Like Custom 68 says. The T56 is a lot of fun in my 65. Low hump floor, tight but doable. Pictures and details in my build thread.

Good luck,

TR
