How far outward does cutting coils move wheel?
I cut one coil off of my front springs and it looks like it pushed the wheels out significantly. I already have 3 inch drop spindles (75 year model) and so the front was already too wide. Does anyone know how much wider the track width is with 1 coil cut off? Need to know so I can get my backspacing correct.

Re: How far outward does cutting coils move wheel?
My understanding is that it moves the suspension thorough its arch. No necessarily outward. I dont know any exact amounts though.

Stock suspension has the lower a-arm pointing down at an angle.
As you cut the coils, you flatten out that lowera-arm. I would guess it moves them put approximately 1/2". But that's just a guess. Regardless, if this is the drop you want, get out the tape measure and measure for wheels. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: How far outward does cutting coils move wheel?
tiny you are correct that technically it does not move the wheel out. The fact that it is further up on the arc physically places it further out though (during use) due to the position on the arc if I understand it correctly. I suppose measuring with a tape measure is the best plan if I can just figure out how to do that. Its complicated for me and my simple mind since I did some swapping of axles in the back on an unknown year model rearend ten years ago and in the front I have 73 and up spindles on 67 A arms.
