Where can I get a RH ramhorn exhaust manifold?
When I was tearing down the 307 in my '69 GMC, I found one of the exhaust manifold bolts rusted solid in the manifold. Not just a little solid -- A LOT solid. I tried heating, cooling, soaking, drilling, grinding, praying...nothing worked. In the end, I broke the manifold in half and spun the entire thing around to unbolt it from the head. Needless to say, I need another exhaust manifold now.
Anyone know who sells these things? I can't read the casting number because it's so rusted. It's the passenger's side manifold with an angled outlet. Oh, and before anyone says "just install headers," I started down this road. I had a cheapo set of headers from a donor car. The driver's side ended up being cracked and the metal was so thin I couldn't weld it shut so I put the ram horn back on that side. The RH side has a header, but one of the tubes comes really close to a hard brake line and I don't want to relocate anything. I'm already set up exhaust manifold back and I'm not looking to redo it. This is not a high power motor so stock manifolds are fine. Thanks! |

They are available from almost every parts supplier out there. If you want a factory GM original, you might have to dig a little deeper. Or look on ebay.

I see that LMC has one for $140 but I'd rather not have to pay that much. I'd be just as happy with a used one provided I can find it.

Re: Where can I get a RH ramhorn exhaust manifold?
I bought a LH (drivers side) from ebay several years ago. The price was right and it fit okay but the quality was terrible. I don't think I will use it since it won't match the RH one I have in quality.
I guess if I had bought two and spent a few hours sanding and polishing them they would be passable. Pic of it. |

Re: Where can I get a RH ramhorn exhaust manifold?
It seems like these things are prone to cracking, the RH side i took off of my 72 was cracked also! I have a bunch of these laying around in the junkyard also. I don't like fighting them because it seems like they are all cracked or you have to fight with the 40+ year old rusty an broken downpipe studs. Classic Parts sells them new for about $145.00 a side, part # for the RH side is, 86-035R. Just a thought, if you went with a decent set of headers made for your truck they would probly only cost a little more than one new manifold. Joseph

I have 30 rams horn exhaust manifolds and only one has the configuration like you need. Unfortunately one of the exhaust pipe bolt holes is broken out on it. The only truck I have that has that manifold on it is the '72 Chevy with a 350/TH350. Evidently they aren't too common. LockDoc

Re: Where can I get a RH ramhorn exhaust manifold?
It is a tradeoff between faster warm ups, and longevity. Running 2 exhaust valves next to each other creates localized hot spots. If Chevy alternated the Intake-Exhaust valves on the SBC, exhaust manifolds would have had more even heating and last longer.
