I've done the same with the wire brush thing in the past. I just insured all of the old sealer and rust is removed and then reasealed it but I don't know what this metal filler is though? It could be that another owner used some Metal Set or similar. Never know on these old trucks. I would just remove as much as you can, use some metal condtioner on rusty spots you can't get to and reseal and paint it.

Some prefer to paint with good epoxy or other good quality paint first. Instructions will tell you which is better.

Re: cab seam question

top/rear of cab. We didn't mess with it on mine, but we thought it could possibly be Lead.
Not way down inside, but the entire seam that runs across the top/back of the cab.

Re: cab seam question

If you're going to weld the seam, why not put a torch to it and see what happens? I would think it should be out of there for a proper weld. I'd burn it out with a torch if you can't get at it that deep.

Re: cab seam question

I will echo the post above it was what was alreadt thinking before I read down that far . get a torch and heat the seam to see if it is lead. I have had it on my list of things to do but it will be a lot of work[ of course what isn't on these trucks?]

Re: cab seam question

Take care and do not breath in the fumes.
And if you're grinding on it (if it is Lead), take caution to dust.
You don't want to be touching that stuff or transmitting it into your home via clothing.
