Got the C notch installed and the frame painted this weekend!
Well Trixter99 & I spent all weekend working on the frame for my shortbox project. We built our own C notch and removed nearly all the crossmembers, cab mounts, and bed mounts. Then we sandblasted the entire thing. Now its finally painted. Next we have to paint all the crossmembers and mounts and bolt the frame all back together with stainless bolts. I can't wait to see it witht the suspension back on it.

Looks great!I am going to have my 67 down to the frame next weekend.I am also going to sandblast the whole frame like that.
How long did that take?It took me 2 hours to do the radiator support really really good. All the nooks and cranny's.My Grill took about an hour and half to get really really good.So far I have around 5 hours in sandblasting alone. I am going to go the more traditional route with the paint.A nicey glossy black.Even though that is a nice color and really looks good.I like the look of black.

Do you work in a bodyshop or do you just happen to have that nice spray booth in your garage

My buddy, Trixter99 is a professional bodyman. We were using the spray booth where he works.

In the photo of the c-notch it looks like there is some sort of plumb bob hanging from each side of the frame. Is this some trick to keep the frame square? Can you elaborate on it, please? I plan on working on a bare frame soon and could use a trick or two to make sure the frame stays straight. Thanks.........

Those are an old style way of checking frame straightness. There are 4 of those hanging from the frame. Spaced evenly. You basically hang them and stand back and try to line them up to see if you have a bend or bow in your frame.
Maybe Darcy can explain them a bit better. We put them on after all the C-notch welding to see if the frame changed at all after all the heat in that area. |

What are the devices (?) made of? They almost look like drum brake cylinders? What did you use for the straight edge piece?

Those gauges are old school DDC's made buy Chart they are realy easy to use if all your looking for is frame center line straitness or twist. They're older than god but work very well if you dont want to set up the big system.
