Guys, I'm in the process of restoring a 67-C10. I am almost to the point of getting back under the hood and finishing what I should have done before the paint job. 3 questions. And keep in mind I am clueless about doing anything mechanical so I have to get others to do the work. I'm only asking these as I'm sure I've been had more than once up to this point.
Question 1--I want to put in another engine and which is better LT or LS I'm going with one or the other. Question 2--Will the newly built 700 R4 work with either selection? Question 3--I'm wanting to put in a tilt steering column and is my best bet going new, or newly rebuilt. I do want to keep this truck as close to stock as I possibly can except for the engine so I don't want chrome, or billet or anthing like that. Any help and directions would be greatly appreciated. |

Welcome to the board from Cali.
I can't really answer #1, but it may help to know the intentions of the truck when it's done to help answer. #2, yes #3, it's more about $ and time than anything. I think it's CPP who sells an aftermarket column that looks stock but even has an OverDrive marker that would work well with the 700 tranny...that's what I would do at least.

Welcome to the board from Texas!
You will hear diffrent opinions on which to use and for sure they are both great engines. If you dont have a LT just sitting around then my vote would be for the LS. This is the latest and greatest and is readily available. Look at some of the builds on the board most of the guys are going to the vortec or LS style engine. You may even find someone that has many of the parts you would need to do the conversion over on the parts board. either way you are on the right website to get help or advise along the way. Good luck
