Talking Holy SHooT.

So this is my first post in awhile but I feel like the title is fitting. It's probably my own fault for letting things pile up and compound but hey I work 40+ hours a week and go to school full time... Anyways So here goes my list of help me pleases:

Main thing, which probably isn't really an issue but still good to hear of other people having similar experiences. Today it was hot and humid and my truck decided to vapor lock right as i got onto the freeway. It got started again after waiting a few hours but I still am wondering if there's a way to avoid that. It Has only done it twice in the past 2 years but still a major PITA when it happens. Also, when I made it home I opened the hood and it was smoking off the left side. No clue what from. Wasn't overheating though.

Second. All my headlights stopped working. On the wiring diagram the headlights and the high beam indicator are on the same circuit and that also doesnt work. A few days before the high beam switch got stuck on. I suck at electronics and have no idea where to start...

Lastly, my temperature gauge doesn't work anymore. This one seems like the easiest I'm pretty sure it's just a bad ground or loose wire but I might as well nag about it here.

So if anyone feels like helpin a guy out shoot all the advice you got at me!

Re: Holy SH*T.

A carb spacer helps a lot with vapor lock.

A little oil leaking from the valve cover onto the exhaust manifold?

Re: Holy SHooT.

So I have heard. I think part of my problem is the previous owner put the fuel line in an odd spot and kinked it so it doesn't take much to lock it up. Its running now that it's cooler but it's running rough. I don't know if the fuel pump is going, the fuel line is screwed or the carb needs adjusting. I should probably get a new carb and spacer and start using non-oxygenated gas. My real headache right now is the headlights. I changed the switch behind the pull knob and they still don't work. Running lights, brake lights, interior lights all work but the hi/low indicator and switch dont seem to work and the headlights don't turn on. Can't find a fuse for them.

Sorry, didn't mean to circumvent any filters. I've been spending too much time on chopcult and bike sites! Won't happen again.

Re: Holy SHooT.

Why do you think it's vapor lock? Make sure you have no kinked fuel lines and they're routed away from heat source.

Re: Holy SHooT.

I assume it is vapor lock because the past two day it has happened not days were 94+ degrees with insane humidity and it happened after sitting at long red lights. The line going into the fuel filter/carb looks linked so I think that is part of the problem but the fuel line goes right up the front of the engine and I don't know how I can do anything about that other than insulate it somehow.

Re: Holy SHooT.

I would try fixing that fuel line if its in the wrong place and kinked it could starve for fuel,And its probably closer to the engine so its getting hot in the line which isn't good either. Can someone post a picture of the stock fuel line to the carb so he has something to go by.

Re: Holy SHooT.

Yeah a guy at work said he used to have trouble with his like that before he sold it and told me to replace it with rubber fuel line and route it a little further from the heat so I'm going to try that and see what happens.
