Hiccuping Pump?
First off. if this isn't the right forum, could someone move it to the proper listing.
I was thinking on putting it in the "engine & Drive-train" or the "Suspension" forums but eh not sure which... The belt seems tight, and the fluid level is good--- Ive finally put together my PS setup for my 250 inline 6 and what I think successfully bleed the system. the only noises I hear is when I turn the wheel all the way to either the left or right which is a squeak. The only real concern I have with the system is it seems to tick or jump a little during the turn. I can feel it in the steering wheel but it doesn't affect the steering what so ever outside from the "hiccups" that the pump has. If you look at the engine while im turning the wheel you can see the hose to the steering gear "hiccup" but the return hose isn't affected. OK so my questions are Would that sound like the belt is slipping on the PS pulley? Are there PS pumps specifically designed for INLINE 6 engine? ( RPM question really) or Do i need to replace any portion of the PS system (which is ALL brand new Steering gear, Pump and Hoses)

P.S. pumps are the same for v8's and 6's in our trucks. RPM should be fine with stock pulley. As for replacing, I'd make absolutely sure it's not a problem with the steering linkage first. Maybe raising the front wheels and placing the whole front end on stands then checking the links and even working the steering with the engine running. You may also be able to totally isolate the gearbox by disconnecting the pitman arm and checking it that way. If in doubt, take it in and have it checked professionally. A steering problem is dangerous. |
