67/67 grill for my 70??

Hi! New to the forum. Heading to pick up my new 70 swb fleetside Friday. I'm really excited about getting it.

My question is, how much is involved in converting my grille to a 67/68? I have used the search button and have read that you have to change the hood, fenders, radiator support, hood latch, and grill. I have also read where people aren't changing the fenders or hood...... I'm confused. Are the fenders different besides from the side markers? Can anybody suggest a better route?

Re: 67/67 grill for my 70??

First thing to the forum.

Changing the whole front clip is really the best way to go about using a 67-8 grill, the later hoods wont work with the early grille(67-8 hood is 1.5"ish longer), There are also differences in the fenders. A 67 or 68-72 GMC fender or a 67-68 Chevy fender is what you need for fenders to work with the 67-8 Chevy grill but you will get into a big pile of mismatched parts. Just easier to find a whole front clip IMO.

Doesn't the radiator core support need to be swapped too?

Re: 67/67 grill for my 70??

Depends... if it's a Chevrolet, then YES, you HAVE to change the fenders. If it's a GMC, no, just swap/remove the trim and fill holes.

Chevrolet and GMC used the same front fenders from 67-68 for Chevy and 67-72 were the same for GMC (with the exception of 67 fenders not having the side marker lights.)

The 69-72 Chevrolet fenders were indented at the front so the grill could actually fit over top of the fenders.

That's probably the confusion. Hope that made sense.

Re: 67/67 grill for my 70??

Thanks for all the useful information and warm welcomes!

I did a little figuring and can up with a price. I figure I can get all new fenders, hood, grille and grille chrome, radiator support, and hood latch for around 1600 bucks before shipping.

I'll have to see if I can pick up a good condition used front clip locally.
