Bumper swap.

Ok I am new to this forum but I need some advice. I have a 1980 Chevy silverado with a 1976 headlight doors and blinker set up. I have purchased a front bumper off a 83 Chevy pickup. I have seen many of these style bumpers on the older trucks. The problem I ran into is that it seems to hit both fenders where the newer bumper wraps around the sides. This won't allow me to get it close enough to attach the bumper to any brackets. Does anyone know how to make this work? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
