What would cause #8 header pipe to turn cherry red?
Howdy guys, my sons new race motor, 350ci with heads and cam(races 1/2 mile dirt)is turning the #8 header tube cherry red while the other 7 remain normal. We checked for blockage in the tube and its open. The plug is black with carbon so Im thinking its not because its too lean in that cylinder. Its a new engine with a new cam he was just breaking in when that cylinder pipe got noticeably bright red! Can an exhaust valve be hanging open or the seat burnt? Thanks in advance and I'll follow up with results, Thanks again! ~Michael Hill~

Re: What would cause #8 header pipe to turn cherry red?
Two things can make the header tube cherry red. First is a lean condition. Second is a rich condition. The fuel will ignite in the header tube and create a ton of heat. I would replace the plugs ohm the ignition wire to make sure its ok and check the cap and rotor for buildup. Any suspect parts should be replaced. With only one cylinder being affected I would thoroughly inspect every piece that feeds only that cylinder.
