Wheels for an S10 swap??? (Early 50s Car Wheels?)
I have a 50 GMC that is built on an 87 s10 frame and rear end with the 5x4.75 bolt pattern so the original truck rims won't work. I just wanted to see what you guys were running on them?
What steelies will fit around disc brakes and on the bolt pattern? I hear early 50s chevy cars will work, but I wanted to hear from you guys? Any other suggest that I can find at a local scrapper? |

S10 on early wheels you have to watch out for center hub and the rim size early 50's chevy 14" might hit disc calibur or 15" might need modification to center hub. Maybe a seventys car such as 69 -72 impala might work, make sure either one clears front disc break set up. Try it before you buy it!

I have the opportunity to buy some 1955 chevy car rims, they are 15's. Does anyone run them or know if they clear the discs?

Re: Wheels for an S10 swap??? (Early 50s Car Wheels?)
i have 79 chevy caprice 15 steelies on my truck with the s10 frame they work great and you can put most 50's car dog dish hub caps on these wheels the fit as long as they are not the clips style. i currently have 60'/70's pontiac hub caps on my truck. the one pic is a 50 ish chevy car hub cap on the caprice wheel. i only had one of those and could not find more for the price i wanted to pay. the forth pic is a close up on the caprice wheels. hope this helps.

Since I don't have stock rims to start with, i just realized that the stock AD rims have the right bolt pattern. Can you use stock rims? Will they clear the disc brakes?
Anyone know what size the stock rims are? 15's or 14's??? |

what size tires are you guys using with low trucks? I currently have 2'' adapaters on 14'' s10 wheels & 205 tires, but want something that fills the wheel well better, & want to upgrade to 15'' wheels

JustNicolas you are going to need wheels with a 5 on 4-3/4" bolt pattern. You are also going to want wheels that have a bit of negative offset to set them a bit further out in the wheel wells so they don't look so lost in the opening.
For steelies look for wheels off the 73 to mid 85's GM rear wheel drive cars with the 5 on 4-3/4 bolt pattern. That included most of the bunch except the big full size rigs that have 5 on 5 bolt pattern and run 1/2 inch lug bolts. I'm like the others and don't think that the 55 rims will clear the calipers. Also the seller probably thinks he has something special and the asking price is probably a bit high. You should be able to buy steelies all day long for about 15 to 20 bucks each used and maybe less. |

Re: Wheels for an S10 swap??? (Early 50s Car Wheels?)
I was thinking of using wheel adapters to try finding original rims and then I could use stock hubcaps like but then my price for wheels skyrockets since I am a college kid on a budget. This does however make the track width further apart since adapters are basically like spacers.
Something like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/5x114-3-5x4-...ht_4339wt_1029 |

That would do what you want to do and space the wheels out a bit but I'm not a real fan of wheel adapters.
You might want to price tires for those original rims and the tubes to go with them before investing in the adapters though. There are vendors that sell custom wheels that look like the old steelies and take a stock looking hubcap but those wheels are probably out of the budget range right now. I'm going to run 76 Cadi Sevelle steel rims on my 48 that has a Mustang II front crossmember and Firebird rear axle under it. Mainly because I had them left over from a car we used to have. I'm running full hubcaps but they will take baby moons. |

Re: Wheels for an S10 swap??? (Early 50s Car Wheels?)
On my rear i used a 8in wheel with 3in backspacing so i didn't have to use spacer. (with 4x4 rearend). In the front I have a 7in wheel from early 70s monte carlo and 1in spacer.
On the truck i'm building now i used a 70 monte carlo rearend so no spacer will be required for the rear.
