Post get a load of this!

I was happy as a clam with my "free" low mile 307 and after getting it(long block with parts) from a "friend" I put in a new timing chain seals and gaskets, manifold carb etc. well I thought I would save my back and put in the distributor before I poked it in the engine bay today. WELL-I couldn't get the dist. in the last little bit(I have done this a million times) I think my friend gave me a big block dist. driveshaft, so I will tear it back down and put in the correct one. glad I did this before I gave back the cherry picker or I would have been a basket case.

Small blocks & big blocks do run the same dizzy, but the pump drive is different.....If i remember right,by about 1/8". Before you tear it down, you might try slammin the dist in a couple times......the drive shaft may not be seated on the pump.....69 longhorn.

We put the HEI from my daughter' wrecked Malibu 267 in my friend's 454 Dump Truck and he's been running it for 8 years. He'll probably be mad if I tell him it won't work after all.

They are the same distributer. I told a co-worker that they were the same before he went to the junkyard to get one. When he was there they told him the small block dizzy was $25 and the big blocks were $50. He didn't listen to me and got the $50 one. After that I tried to sell him piston return springs and blinker fluid. Lights are on-nobody was home

Like CPNE said, turn the engine over a touch and it should drop in. If the oil pump rod isn't lined up perfectly it will keep the distributor from dropping in. Get it right and it will drop.

Gentlemen, I have figured it out! My friend didn't give me the pump drive shaft, it was from a bigblock I had a long time ago. I got the correct one and the dist. went right in in a snap!
*Yes bigblock dist will interchange
*No oil pump driveshafts will not it has to do with deck height
