Converting Long stepper to Short stepper......Can I pick your brain??

Ive got a 64 long stepper. Its kinda cool in its own ugliness, but frankly, when it comes right down to it it's just not what I want. I want something I can lower and make look cool. Let's face it, long steppers just dont have near the cool factor haha. I am thinking about cutting down the frame to shortbed length, and then cutting down my bed. The bed should be easy I think. Unbolt the front header panel, cut out the desired amount off the front, bolt on the front panel, and buy some new stake pockets and spot weld on. Then Ill have to find some shortbed front steps or fabricate some outta my old ones. The frame is the part Im kinda leery of. Any words of advice one way or another? Thanks, Jared

Not sure about a stepper, but on a fleetside you need to shorten 12" in front of the wheel and 8" in back. That makes two cuts in the bed. The frame gets cut 12 "directly behind the cab and 8" off the back. Then you have driveline, trailing arm, and other issues. Not so bad on a GMC with leaf springs......

Thats a pretty awesome write up! Is the 68 frame he's cutting the same as a '64 frame by chance?
