Back in the 50's and 60's the key makers and lock smith shops often had upgraded blanks (for lack of a better term) that you could buy and have cut for your car.

This is just for example and I wouldn't suggest buying it as it's unknown as to what it fits.

They are still floating around and you still see them on the displays where they make keys in some places. You do have to find the right blank though.
