Cowl Hood Insulation?
I am installing a 2" Cowl Ind hood on my 84 and was wondering what people who have these did for hood insulation? It appears to take the regular insulation but do you have to trim any area out for air flow or just run a solid sheet of it? Does it matter?

Re: Cowl Hood Insulation?
Does your cowl hood have openings in the back (i.e. is it a functional cowl hood)? If it is not a functional cowl, I would just go with a single sheet of insulation.
If it was a functional cowl, I would look into using a thinner type of stick on insulation. Check out the Fatmat hoodliner kit. Shoot us some pics of the hood installed on the truck. I have been considering going with a 2" cowl.

Re: Cowl Hood Insulation?
this may be a stupid question but what is the purpose of having the insulation?

Re: Cowl Hood Insulation?
On factory cowl hoods (such as my chevelle) the insulation changed. The factory had small pieces of insulation that tucked into the support structure rather than one big sheet.
Depending on how your aftermarket cowl hood is made you could probably do the same thing GM did back in the day. |

Re: Cowl Hood Insulation?
Depending upon the engine and vehicle, the insulation helps to prevent the engine heat from cooking the paint on the hood.
