Re: Has anybody out there cut coils or heated them for a drop?

wow diggin up an old thread here from 2009.
Still relevant today however.
Some use Chevelle, Cultass or Skylark rear springs to drop a few inches. Being a smaller diameter wire they will ride good but not have the load carrrying capacity as a thicker truck spring. Some also use jeep springs. Same applies to them. It's all in how you intend to use your truck as to what springs to use I guess.

Re: Has anybody out there cut coils or heated them for a drop?

jeep springs and chevelle springs are just too soft you can stand in t he bed and its on bumpstops.

(I ended up cutting my front springs 1 coil=2" drop heard not to cut more than 1 round) and put a 2" drop block in the rear

total drop-2/2

1st pic truck springs/jeep tj rear springs

2nd pic cut front 1 round 2" drop block/stock truck springs

Re: Has anybody out there cut coils or heated them for a drop?

The only problem I had after cutting 1 1/2 coils , was every time you jack the front up it's a pain in the butt coz the coils drop out of the pockets , so you've gotta hold it back in place as you lower the truck down ( carefully or ya could lose a finger or two ) ....

Re: Has anybody out there cut coils or heated them for a drop?

Although I don't think it's the best way to do it I have torched a few springs over the years. I did my wife's '76 last week. Dropped about three inches, it still has a nice ride.
