65 gmc suspension question

I have a 65 2wd that i want to lower the front end a couple inches. I pulled the coils and had a cut set from a 77 camaro sitting around. they are pretty much the same length as the truck coils. i put them in and set the truck on its wheels and it dropped about 2 3/4 inches. is it safe to use the camaro coils? has anyone done this?
