Smile Original Power Steering Ram Questions

Hey guys...you don't see me in the 60-66' area much but I've been primarily working on my '72 for the last year or so. I do check in tho' as a bit of a reader than a poster..but that will probably change in a year or so, when I start doing the upgrades, etc on my '66.
I have a couple of questions regarding the original ram style power steering systems for the 64-66's (and 67's?).
I recently acquired one in a rather odd/last minutentrade and I won't be using it so I'm trying to figure out a) what it might be worth in case I list it locally for sale...and b) how it works. It appears to be in pretty good condition...but I'm looking for info on it. As well, I took a bunch of pics of it but I think they are too big to load here....at least as far as I've been able to figure out so far (300+kb size)
It doesn't have a pump like a normal power steering system. It seems to have all this lower cylinder/ram/lines and what looks to be the connection point to the steering.
What sort of a pump runs this? or? Is there any market for these? or does everyone run the newer style pumps and steering boxes...which is what I was intending to do on my '66.
Many Thanks in advance!!!!

Re: Original Power Steering Ram Questions

there are a couple of those moe than likely within 10m mi or so that you can more than likely have for nothing. someone from Brentwood just scrapped a 66 that still had one in it about 2 weeks ago. is that the one you got? it does take a std type p/s pump that goes with the short w/p sbc.
most run the later style p/s. unless you are doing a restoration.
what do you have for a 66?

Hey Ron!! good to see another local guy!
My truck is a 66' long/fleet 1/2 ton. Red w/ White cab and custom cab trim and moldings. Its running the ol' 250 6/3 on the tree combo. Its a pretty nice truck (originally out of Florida) and I've had it for about 17-18 years.
I would like to add power steering/brakes and automatic to make it more driveable...including for my wife.
I haven't put it on the road in a couple of years...but it still shows pretty well.

Re: Original Power Steering Ram Questions

To switch out from the old power assisted (ram and control valve) system to a more modern power steering system you need to switch out the center drag link to a manual steering drag link. The power rams are fairly easy to come by, the control valve and hoses a little more difficult.
