Trailer hitch question?

I've been looking for a trailer hitch for my 67 and was noticing that there are alot on craigslist for practically free but I don't know which one would fit the best with the least amount of modification. Has anyone tried to put a hitch on one of our trucks that was for something else? Or should I just shell out the $$$$ for a new one?

Re: Trailer hitch question?

Good question. I just recently purchased my truck and last weekend I removed the bed and today the rearend and rear suspension parts. I have not removed the trailer hitch yet, using it to support the frame at this time. Three bolts on each side through the frame. First time truck owner, I have a lot to learn but it appears as if the rear bumper is 6 inches further back and above the bumper brackets is a piece of metal about 10 inches long and 6 wide. They are bolted to the bumper. Not exactly sure when I'll be taking it off but it won't be going back on, maybe I'll find a name or date of manufacture when I get to that point. Sorry I didn't answer your question, I'm trying to learn as much as I can about 67 - 72 c10's.

Re: Trailer hitch question?

I have a vintage one that bolts onto the frame and the sport bumper, not strong but i got it cheap its kinda cool/different just for a small trailer

The hitchs on craigslist measure by width measure your frame rails and then see what fits

check the last few pages of my build for pic

Re: Trailer hitch question?

I bought one at 1 time for a 78 C-10 and when I sold the truck I took it off and stuck it back. Several years later I thought and tried it and it fit.

So,if I'm not mistaken, up to an 86 will fit.Make sure its a chevy truck.

I HAVE A 72 C-10 SWB

Re: Trailer hitch question?

I bough one from Reese-hitches.com. Easy to install. Came with all the bolts. All i needed to do was drill a few holes. Took about 2 hours to install. However i ditched the factory beast-o-bumper and replaced it with a step. However this part is designed for a stock configuration so it should still work.

Class IV, 2 inch Receiver Hitch Part No: 41001

I was thinking the same thing but I figured if I could find one that fit or was close to fitting I could "adjust" it

Re: Trailer hitch question?

JC Whitney on sale with free shipping is what I put on my '69 short stop. Cleared the original bumper just fine. Early Classic Enterprises has hidden hitches that fit behind license plate if that's your thing. They also have Blazer hitches which are hard to find. I had one custom made for my Jimmy 20 years ago.
