Re: my new to me 1986 chevy sub

If I turbo it I will proably just swap a 6.5 in it but that will only come after the 6.2 dies. I dOnt need to fly up the highway so the 6.2 does all I need it to plus it gets great fuel mileage. So why mess with it.

There are also some low costs things you can do to help that 6.2 as well.

1. Biggest bang for the buck will be a free flow exhaust. The stock setup is very restrictive. A super single 3" works well. Or if you want a mean sounding setup, go with dual 2.5" / H-pipe and some old fashioned Thrush / Walker glasspack mufflers.

2. J code air handler (intake manifold). This air handler has no EGR. Or if you want to save some money, you can simply chip out the EGR pedestal.

3. BHAF (Big Honkin Air Filter). Basically, stack 2 air filters on top of each other.

Of course to take advantage of all of this, you'll need to turn up the injection pump.
